What I learned about myself at the mall earlier

Before you start reading, play this video.
I don't think I like the mall at all. I mean I love shopping, don't get me wrong, it's just the people in the mall make me want to give myself a swirly and then light my hair on fire. These random people just walk right up next to you with no regard for your/ my preference of personal space. Clothing store employees are either all up in your business or are silently judging you from afar. Mom's let their children run loose in stores. Whenever I walk into Hollister in particular I feel like I have to have a gas mask and a flash light on me. Ugh ugh ugh. The only pleasant time I had in a store was when Foreign Exchange played the Birthday Song by 2 Chains. Is it sad that I know every word of that song? (I'm listening to it right now and so are you. It's like we're... connected.)
But that's just how I feel about the mall nearest to my house. I've been to lovely malls and I've been to dumpier malls, but for the most part, I'm not a big fan of them anymore. I used to love going to the mall, but it was a different time. BUT IF YOU'RE A HOMIE OF MINE AND YOU'RE LIKE HEY LESLEY YOU WANT TO HANGOUT AT THE MALL WITH ME THEN I WOULD SAY YES OF COURSE.
So what I did was just go to this little Cuban restaurant, order a papa rellena and a pineapple soda, sit in a little secluded section of the mall, and read some Fahrenheit 451 by the legendary Ray Bradbury.
I'm absolutely in love with the book and if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it! It's a quick read and has an interesting plot to say the least. The book takes place in the future where books are against the law. This guy, Guy Montag, is a fireman who burns books for a living. He meets a girl named Clarisse McClellan who changes the way he sees things. (I wanted them to have an affair for some reason).
You know what's funny? I used to never really be into sci-fi, but now I love it.
Well that's that for now. Have a lovely Friday

A lovely little visit from Susan ♡

Recently my friend Susan, returned from her birthday trip to Portland, Oregon.
She brought me back this lovely little book, Geek Girls Unite by Leslie Simon and an adorable postcard/card! Both from Powell's Bookstore in Portland!!! I'm super stoked to read the book for several reasons:
  1. I'm a bookwork
  2. I'm a geek
  3. My name is Lesley and her name is Leslie (She's the author of Wish You Were Here: An Essential Guide to Your Favorite Music Scenes and co-author of Everybody Hurts: An Essential Guide to Emo Culture)
  4. There's a Princess Leia on the back!!!!!!!
  5. It makes references to several of my favorite celebrities including Amy Poehler, Bjork, Zooey Deschanel, etc.
  6. Just by flipping through the pages I saw adorable illustrations
I'll be writing a review on the book when I finish it!! ♡

Imaginary withdrawals from an imaginary boyfriend

So where do I apply for a summer fling?

I know I'm still young and all and I shouldn't worry about having a boyfriend or a girlfriend, but I just want one, y'know? I want to hold hands with someone and share sappy poems with them and we would go on adventures and watch movies and reruns on Netflixs. Sorry for being such a sap.
I also know that I don't need someone to make me happy. I'm happy already. I'm happy being alone. I'm happy. I guess I just want someone to share that happiness with. Once upon a time, I was "in love" with this boy who basically turned me into the girl I am today. He opened my eyes to the love of all things geeky and nerdy. Then I became clingy and he kind of just walked out of my life and is currently planning his 2 year anniversary with some lovely wench. Not that I care or anything... I swear I don't! Well anyways, I was pretty heart broken and it really took a toll on me. I was always sad/ bitter and I tried everything to fill the void in my heart. I handled things really stupidly (and I was in middle school. What a terrible combination!). Several times he had come back only to make matters worse and I was a wreck! With time as well as the help of my parents and close friends, I was able to turn things around for the better. I'm a lot better and I have a lot more respect for who I am.
But back to the point, I want a Scott to my Ramona; a Diego to my Frida; a Heathcliff to my Catherine; an Aladdin to my Jasmine; a Link to my Zelda; an okay to my okay.
Well um that's enough sappiness for now... I'll let you know if my singleness changes... I mean if you care? Actually no. I will tell you because I don't care if you care or not, this is my blog and I'll post whatever I want HMPH.

Refresh

I started this blog last winter, but I never really used it.
My name is Lesley and I live in southern California. I go to an all girl's Catholic high school and I'm going to be a junior next fall! I'm a bookworm and I like to think I'm a happy person.
It's summer now and I have all the time in the world! I have nothing really planned this summer so I might as well dedicate my time to something productive! I'm not really sure what I'll be blogging about, maybe fashion, beauty, reviews, rants, raves, school, family, friends, spirituality, and my adventures.
Let's see how this goes...
